The question near the end of a term is not what your average is — it is what you still need. Enter each part of the course with its weight, fill in the scores you already have, and leave the ones you have not sat blank.
Alongside the answer are the two figures that decide whether the question is worth asking: the best grade still reachable if you ace everything left, and the worst if you score nothing. When the target sits outside that range, the tool says so rather than quoting a score above 100.
Leave its score blank. A component with a weight but no score is what is still to come, and the answer is the average you need across all of them. That is the whole model — a blank is meaningful here, not a gap.
Because the number would be above 100. If a perfect score on everything left still lands below your target, the target is not hard — it is arithmetically impossible, and the result says which grade a perfect score would actually give you. Aim at that instead.
That you have already banked enough points to hit the target no matter what happens next, including a zero. The worst-still-possible figure alongside the result shows where a zero would leave you.
The tool tells you what they add up to and still gives an answer, scaled to what you entered, so it stays useful while you are typing a syllabus in. But the figure is only trustworthy once every component is listed — a missing 20% is 20% of your grade unaccounted for.

A tool that prints "you need 165" invites you to read it as merely hard. It is not hard, it is impossible, and knowing the real ceiling is more useful than the impossible number.
