[ WHAT THIS IS ]

Unused leave converts to cash at your daily rate. The arithmetic is one multiplication — the part people get wrong is which days count and what the daily rate actually is.

Each kind of leave gets its own row and its own switch, because they do not all convert. Vacation leave normally does; sick leave usually does not. Ten unused vacation days and fifteen unused sick days is ten days of cash, not twenty-five, and the working below shows which bucket was left out.

[ QUESTIONS ]

Does sick leave convert to cash?

Usually not, but it depends on your company. The Labor Code guarantees service incentive leave and requires the unused part of it to be paid out; everything beyond that — the vacation and sick leave most employers grant on top — converts only if company policy or your CBA says it does. That is why each kind of leave here has its own switch rather than being assumed.

Why is my daily rate not my monthly salary divided by the days I worked?

Because the daily rate is derived from your annual salary over your paid days for the year, not from one month in isolation. At ₱30,000 a month over 261 paid days it is ₱1,379.31, whereas ₱30,000 ÷ 22 gives ₱1,363.64. The second figure is lower, and it is not the rate leave converts at.

What is the paid days per year figure?

It is the factor your payroll uses — how many days of the year you are paid for. 261 is Monday to Friday with rest days unpaid, 313 is a six-day week, and 365 means every day is paid. It is a term of your employment, not a legal constant, so check your contract or ask payroll. It changes the answer.

Is the cash I get taxed?

Some of it may not be. Monetised unused leave is treated differently from ordinary pay, and part of it can fall outside taxable income depending on how many days are converted and whether you are in the private or public sector. This calculator gives you the gross cash value only and applies no tax rules, because the thresholds are set by BIR regulation and getting one wrong here would be worse than not showing it. Ask your payroll department or check the current regulation for the taxable portion.

Can I enter half days?

Yes. Type 2.5 for two and a half days. If your company tracks leave in hours, divide by your hours per day first — the hourly rate shown alongside the result is there for exactly that.

[ WORKED ]
₱30,000 a month, 261 paid days
₱360,000 ÷ 261 ₱1,379.31 a day

[ THE COMMON MISTAKE ]
₱30,000 ÷ 22 days ₱1,363.64
₱360,000 ÷ 261 days ₱1,379.31

Over ten days that gap is ₱156.70. The second figure is the one your daily rate is defined as, and the one every premium is computed against.
